The Warning Signs Were There!

According to Lt. Col Val Finnell, all the warning signs were there: ” the justification of homicide bombings, spewing of anti-American hatred; the efforts to reach Al Qaeda.” Did you read this right? I said a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army says all of the warning signs were there that Major Nidel Malik Hasan had become a terrorist!

The army had given Hasan a poor performance review, he was on the radar of one U.S. intelligence agency, but no action was taken to stop this man. Oh my, his religious and civil rights might have been violated. So instead we have 13 dead and 42 wounded at Fort Hood.

“He was a lightning rod. He made his views known and he was very vocal, he had extremely radical jihadist views,” Finnell said. “When you’re a military officer you take an oath to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.”

How in the hell can the army justify this?

“By the way Cindy I have to agree with you….My grandmother came to this country, she worked hard, she learned English. She also spoke her German/Hungarian only at home. Same with my Moter in law. They both loved this country. They respected the law and never wanted to go back to the counties they came from. I feel if you come to America to make a better life you picked the best country in the world. Learn our language, go by our laws, and most of all have respect for all people. Most Americans and I will say the majority of them are good citizens. Don’t move here and try to live the way you did in the old country. It don’t work. If you are not happy then go back from where you came from. There are plenty of people waiting in line to come here. Every country has problems and negative history. But its History, so move on and forward.
    Don’t dwell on the negative.”

@fracch, Our backgrounds must be very similiar. My maternal grandfather immigrated from Hungry and my grandma from the Urkarine. Paternal grandpa born in the US, grandma from Austria. We just found out about the Austria part, she always said she was from Poland. Us grandkids and greatgrandkids wonder if maybe we have some Jewish in us! They were all proud to be Americans!

As this story unfolds, I also wonder how the army and the government can justify their behavior in this. I get so angry when I travel and the screeners are almost strip searching an elderly women in a wheelchair, but this man was able to continue in the Army when the warning signs were there. I just can’t imagine how the parents, spouses and friends of the dead are managing. I think I would go ballastic and probably end up in jail!

I also love how Hasan’s attorney has stated that he will make sure that “his rights are defended.” Rights to what, a swift and expedient execution?

All the medals and money will not bring back those that he shot. It is very sad. Yes the man does have rights under our laws, however if our Govt knew of all this and how unstable this man was then why did they not do something so all this could have been avoided. I am sadly disappointed in them.
Will this man get life in an Army prison where he will have to live in solitary confinment? due to his crime. Is he going to pretend he is insane? (remember he knows all the ins and outs) or will this man receive the death pen. This is a very shameful hour in the USA. What makes it worst is that the terr. on the internet are calling him a hero.

I didn’t even think of the angle of him being a psychrist and the in’s and out’s of the insanity defense. Of course, he could quite well fake any one of the insanity defenses.

  3. Dale says:

Thats a good point Cindy. He has the knowledge to fake being insane, how are they going to be able to tell? Either way he needs to be tortured and killed, although I’m sure some people will disagree. I’m sure the families of his victums won’t have a problem with it….

  4. Cindy says:

You know Dale, the whole insanity defense stinks most of the time. How do you tell the difference between someone being insane and just plain evil. Pardon my spelling, but if someone is a schizophrenic and kills someone, the are legally insane. But what if someone knows he is schizo and won’t take his meds, then kills. Is he still insane?

How do you argue about Hasan? I think anyone that did what he did is insane, but….that doesn’t excuse anything. Did he start out as a sane man that got involved with extremist religious nuts? Or did someting snap in his head, hearing all the horror stories that he did? So far, the news is hitting on all of his terrorist ties. I usually don’t get this compassionate about these things, but this takes the cake to me.

I hope that we, the public, get to read the interviews with this man. I am very interested in what he has to say. Deep down the man has to know the difference between right and wrong. I don’t think he could have made it as far as he had if he didn’t. I think I’m rambling now, time for bed.

  5. Dale says:

I don’t think it really matters. If your schizophrenic and you have been on meds and they keep you on an even keel, then you have to make a conciouse “sane” decision not to take them. To me that puts you in the same catagory as someone who drinks and drives. They make the decision what to put into or not into thier bodies and if doing either or makes you have a distorted perception of reality then that was their choice. I don’t really know though, thats a slipery slope.

My Aunts mother-in-law is a very very inteligent woman as is all of her family. They are all above normal, however, she is schizophrenic and her mads make her feel really bad and drained from all energy. When she takes them she looks really bad. When she doesn’t take them, she looks great but she crazy as a loon….

I think there is much more or much less to this mans story. I personally, even if he was horrified of the prospect of being deployed to Iraq after hearing all of the horror stories wouldn’t explain why he would attack the people who are protecting our country.

Honestly, from what I’ve heard and my gut feeling, Hasan has been harboring these feelings all along. He has always been an extremest. He had hidden it and in the back of his mind though what a better way to sneak in and attack the infidells someday as by doing it from the inside and being in their military. Sorta like a sleeper cell.

No-one expected the attacters from 9-11 to be terrorists either. They had lived here for years, were well educated, well thought of, were smart people. So you never can tell. Your own neighbor may be one. Thats one thing that makes them so dangerous. You just can’t tell.

I have a friend that owns a mini-mart up from our home. He is a super kind man. He is wonderful to my family. He always gives the kids free candy. We all think the world of him. However, when he bought the mini-mart, probibly 10 years ago or more, one of the first things he did is remove all pork products. No pork rhinds, bacon, etc…

I don’t believe in premarital sex but I wouldn’t have removed all condoms from the store if I had purchased it. Of-course condoms have more applications than just for people having pre-marital sex but lets get real….

So, in the back of my mind, even though I think very very highly of the man, I will never not trust him, just in-case…

  6. Dale says:

Oh, something else I forgot… They were saying yesterday that several people suspected that he was an extremest but were afraid to say anything because even though Muslim is a religion he was of middle-eastern decent and they were afraid of being called racist. Sound familiar?

  7. Debbie Self says:

They should have removed this evil doing from the military years ago, but, instead, they kept promoting him. They keep saying he was a subject of interest in several incidents involving terrorist actions. Can you imagine how this guy felt when they knocked down our towers and bombed our pentigon? I think he should get the firing squad. I have a nephew that is based at Foot Hood, and you can imagine the worry that we went thru until we found out that he and his family were okay. I talked with Johns wife Lynette over her cell phone and you could hear the sirens going off. She at the time was locked down in her home on the base, John was locked down in formation, which I find out is standard due to possible terrorist attacks, and their kids were locked down in the school. I could hear someone talking over loud speakers and she said that they were telling them to turn off all air conditioning/heat and to not drink any water from the tap as a precaution. She said that they did not live far on the base from where this crazy man was doing all the shooting. I am so thankful that my family is safe and sound, but my hearts go out to the family of the 13 that he killed. They came home for a land of suicide bombings and such only to be killed here on their homeland soil. This guy is the worst kind of terrorist in my book. He is an american, turned against americans, because of his crazy and unorthodox muslim beliefs.

    • Dale says:

I think Whoopi G. came up with a good poing yesterday on The View. She said there were red-flags about Hasan everywhere! Even on presentation Power-Points that he had given. They said that as much as we love life, Muslims love death.

She was pissed becasue he lumped all of “them” together” and all of “us” together where if WE were to lump all Muslims together “WE” would be called racist or profilers….

The other point she brought up was that they ignored the fact that he was a Muslim extremist but if he had been GAY the military would have been all over the situation…. I thought they were both pretty good points……
