It’s time grown-ups get a grip! Seasame Street is celebrating their 40th birthday. Yes, the PBS educational television program we all grew-up with is still going strong, however, not even a childrens programs are exempt from receiving bad press.
In a clip of a sketch that originally aired two years ago without controversy, now have some people PISSED! In the clip, Oscar the Grouch, portrays a reporter for the “Grouch News Network“, or “GNN“, sound familiar yet? After Oscar conducts the interview in which he shares hugs and kisses (sexual harassment) with his royal interview subjects, an irate viewer calls him to complain that his coverage of the news wasn’t quite grouchy enough, saying “From now on, I’m watching POX NEWS,” adding, “Now there’s a trashy news show!”
After the rerun aired, Blog Hollywood, ran a post from an anonymous writer calling himself “Stage Right”:
If Mom and Dad watch cable news, it’s better than 50/50 they watch “POX News.” So what gives? PBS – a network partially funded with my tax dollars — has the right to tell my kids that their parents watch “trashy” news? The message is clear. I can’t even sit my kids in front of “Sesame Street” without having to worry about the Left attempting to undermine my authority.
If your going to get upset over TV, don’t do it over a children’s television. As a parent, I can assure you that a child young enough to still be interested in SeasameStreet isn’t going to understand the undertones of political satire. If you remember watching Bugs Bunny, and I’m sure you do, in one episode an Evil Witch turns Daffy Duck into a blue platypus with a golf flag as a tail. If you ever have the chance to re-watch this episode, you’ll notice on the golf flag, that had been Daffy’s tail is a picture of a screw and the capital letter U. Translation, SCREW YOU! This message was very inappropriate for children, especially in the 60’s when it first aired, but none of us were mature enough to understand its subtle yet inapproprite meaning.
If a parent wants to get irate about television programming, lets talk about Creepy Smiling Bob and the Chubby Santa with the gifts that keeps on giving. Television commercials are out of control! As a parent I am embarrassed every time a commercial airs about pills that promise a massive erection but you never hear any complaints….
Yahoo News reported, The “Pox News” incident isn’t the first time “Seasame Street” has ruffled conservative feathers. False rumors that the show had caved to pressure from liberals promoting healthy-eating habits and was converting Cookie Monster into a Veggie Monster sparked some scorn. The story was sensationalized by some in the media and an Internet petition calling for a boycott of the show was widely circulated, reminding some of a previous crusade by the religious right to boycott the PBS show “Teletubbies” over one of its character’s “subtle dipictions” of homosexuality. However, Sesame Street representatives said at the time that the infusion of fruits and vegetables into Cookie Monster’s diet was merely part of the shows effort at “broadening his eating habits.”
President Obama, has trashed FOX news, basically because he doesn’t like anyone who voices views or opinions contrary to his own or that may question the validity of his decisions. Sorry, but isn’t that the very foundation on which America was created? Allowing people to voice their thoughts and opinions, then letting people make decisions as individuals about what they believe and believe in?
In my opinion, and it’s just my opinion, Obama had no more right to trash Fox News than he did making a statement about his “friend” Henry Louis Gates Jr., when he was arrested.

People People People, Watch your local news. You get a much better insight to what is going on. No disrepect to the President but he should not trash the Fox news, he should be trying to make, develop, give manufacturing/industry a tax break so that he can fill that promise of making jobs. Not just saving them with the Stimulas Bill. The President never should have made a remark about his friend (trouble with police) he should have said No Comment I don’t know the details. It really opened a can of worms and wasted alot of time on the mans problem instead of working on the unemployment situation in this country. As for the Sesame Street Characters having an opinion do puppets have a Bill of Rights. Its a childerns show, maybe the writers needs to let off steam…Now for the commercials that advertized creepy smiling Bob..where did they find that guy? I do not like those commercials, I think that is way off base. I see them at all times of the day and night. UGH. Who decieds what crap goes on tv because that is crap. Oh well only my opinion
